Clinical Trial: Use of CBD Associated with Greater Emotional Wellness

Sao Paulo, Brazil: Daily administration of CBD is associated with lower levels of emotional exhaustion, anxiety, and depression, according to clinical study data published in JAMA Psychiatry.

A team of researchers from the University of São Paulo in Brazil evaluated the safety and effectiveness of CBD treatment in a frontline cohort of 120 health professionals. Half of the study participants received 300 mg of CBD daily for a period of four weeks. Others did not receive the substance.

Those who underwent CBD treatment showed fewer signs of emotional exhaustion and burnout than those who did not. CBD consumption was also linked to less anxiety and depression. However, five of the subjects who were supposed to use CBD eventually had to stop the study after experiencing serious side effects, including elevated liver enzymes.

“This randomized clinical trial found that the efficacy and safety of daily treatment with CBD, 300 mg, for 4 weeks, in combination with standard care that was superior to standard care alone, was superior to symptoms of emotional exhaustion, anxiety and depression in health professionals at the forefront of reducing work with patients with COVID-19, ”concluded the authors. “Cannabidiol can act as an effective means of reducing burnout symptoms in a population with high mental health needs worldwide.”
