Here’s a 12-month roadmap to financial wellness

With the New Year approaching, there’s no better time to hit the refresh button and pave the way for financial wellbeing.

However, trying to put everything on a to-do list can be overwhelming, said Amy Richardson, certified financial planner at Schwab Intelligent Portfolios Premium.

For this reason, she came up with a 12-month calendar that outlines the essential movements of money.

“By putting it this way, it’s a very easy way to help people improve their financial well-being,” said Richardson. “It’s a great way to hold yourself accountable.”

First of all, a financial year review must be carried out. Once you see where you stand, you can start planning how to achieve your goals.

However, if you’re still in survival mode and feel unwilling to tackle your finances, give yourself some grace, said Berna Anat, financial literacy educator and creator of financial literacy website Hey Berna.

Instead, your # 1 focus should be on making money.

“Cash flow is your oxygen,” she said. “Those who can breathe better can plan better.”
