Tezpur University hosts workshop on mental and emotional wellness
The Department of Mass Communication and Journalism (MCJ), Tezpur University, in cooperation with the Youth Wellness Hub, Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Regional Institute of Mental Health (LGBRIMH), Tezpur is holding a three-day workshop to promote the emotional and mental health of young people from 6 . to January 8th.
The workshop, titled “Pursuit of Wellness”, aims to foster discussions on young people’s mental health problems with particular reference to the northeastern region of India, to raise awareness of young people’s mental health problems and to facilitate destigmatization through dialogue. The workshop is supported by the Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD), Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu.

Speakers recognized the initiatives of the Department of MCJ at Tezpur University and highlighted the importance of creating awareness and awareness of mental health issues in order to promote wellbeing and happiness for individual, social and community wellbeing. They also highlighted the role of young people in this regard and how educational institutions can help create a conducive environment for this.
The opening session was attended by Prof. SK Deuri, Director, LGBRIMH, Prof. Sibnath Deb, Director, RGNIYD, Prof. PK Das, Dean School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Tezpur University, Prof. Sonia P. Deuri, Head, Department. part of psychiatric social work, LGBRIMH and other dignitaries.
Dr. Nanda Kishore Kannuri, Associate Professor, Indian Institute of Public Health, Hyderabad, and Dr. Jai Ranjan Ram, a well-known child and youth psychiatrist, gave the keynote speeches. Dr. Kannuri highlighted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in his speech and discussed the intersectionality between mental health, SDGs and the social determinants of health. Dr. Ram presented a roadmap on mental illness prevention and mental health promotion with a specific reference to the Indian context. During the three-day workshop, a variety of other outstanding resource persons conducted sessions on various aspects of mental and emotional wellbeing.
